Northern Ireland Commercial Cattle Exhibitor’s did what they do best at their 9th Annual “Summer Spectacular” Show held at Balmoral, Belfast – where they pulled out all the stops and put on one of their best events to date. Over 100 cattle and calves represented show men and women from all six counties, with the quality of the very highest standard throughout.
James Alexander proved to be unstoppable with his Jalex team of 8 home bred commercials securing both the Supreme and Reserve Supreme Championships. His winner on the day was the much admired Charolais steer “Ted” who tipped the scales at 667 kilos on show morning. It felt like this April 2012 born entry couldn’t put a foot wrong all day collecting top honours in the heavy weight class and securing the Charolais and Male Championships. There was a cheer from the ringside when Judge Martin Ryan tapped him out as Overall Supreme Champion of the show, and went on to describe him as “A worthy Champion that simply oozed style and quality from every angle”. “Ted” is sired by the CF52 son “Lowerffrydd Benhurr”, and out of a Limousin x Blue cow. “Ted” was also awarded the Best Exhibitor Bred prize which is a new addition to the 2013 show.
Dermot Small had a strong team of cattle at the Spectacular, also winning the Reserve Female Championship with the Billingly Siralex daughter “Prada Candy”. This 435 kilo heifer is once again bred from a former show winner. Her dam “Bambi” was very well known and was flushed successfully. The same exhibitor also brought out the Reserve Calf Champion. “Juicy Couture” is out of the former show heifer Cleopatra and sired by Crossmolina Euro.
